Child poverty- a world wide problem
One of the harsh calamities of this modern world is poverty. This poverty is a threat to the life and future of the children. Almost all countries including the United States of America are faced with the challenge of poverty. There are millions of children in every country who are living I in poverty. Even the developed countries are faced with the problem of child poverty. The condition is worse in developing countries. In third world countries millions of children are living even below the poverty line.
Meaning of child poverty
Child poverty means lack of basic necessities e.g. clean water, food, clothes, and medical facilities, spiritual, mental and emotional development. It also includes lack of educational opportunities for the children. Thus they lack the things essential for survival. Children who grow up in poverty pay the heavy price for the sin that is not their own. Many surveys and researches show that the children who live in poverty grow up with bad health, they are physically less strong. If they have education opportunities they do not perform well in schools. They also fall a victim to mental illnesses. They do not get much chance to raise their standard of living in their future lives as they have no chances to get higher education.
Reasons of poverty
The question that “What causes the children live even beyond the level of poverty?” has obvious and definite answers.
- In developing countries poor economy is the first reason. The people live on even less than two dollars a day. They do not have access to clean water. Education is beyond their reach. Their children are bound to suffer in such circumstances. The poverty cycle goes on as they do not get any chance to improve their lives.
- Then there is lack of education which in itself is an outcome of poverty. And because of which they are unable to get good jobs that would earn them enough to rise from the level of poverty.
- The governments developing and third world countries do not have much to spend on basic needs of sanitation and education. Even the supply of food is a hard job for them. They do not attract investors and they themselves are not able to provide job opportunities.
- In developed countries broken relationships between parents is leading their children toward poverty. Single mothers form a great number of poverty-stricken people in the world
The situation in third world countries represents the most accurate example of child poverty. Poverty rate is higher in Countries like Africa and other south Asian countries. According to a research more than 43% people suffer from poverty in south Asian countries. The majority is of children and women.
There are many organizations and unions that are formed to help the children in poverty. World organizations like UN and UNICEF have been making policies to reduce the extreme poverty in the world. UN has made a goal to reduce extreme poverty by 2015. These organizations collect funds from rich people and countries and give it to the poor countries to be spent on the basic needs.
Every child has the right to live and enjoy the basic necessities of life; every child has the right to get education and other facilities. It is the responsibility of all human being related to any creed and country, to play their role to release the poor kids from the feeling of deprivation.
